Habitat in the Wild
This species, so far only known from the type has been collected near the summit of Mount Mulu in Gunung Mulu National Park. The habitat was recorded as ridge top upper montane forest. The plant was described as locally common.
The Plants Description
The pseudobulbs cluster on short rhizome that grows to 2.5cm long. The pseudobulbs are shaped fusiform and measure 1.0-2.2cm long and 0.5cm in diameter. The pseudobulbs are covered by 2 cataphylls while they are growing. The cataphylls disintegrate into persistent fibres as the pseudobulbs mature. The leaves are petiolate; the petiole measures 0.5-1cm long. The leaf blades are shaped oblong-elliptic and have obtuse, shortly mucronate apices. The leaf blades measure 3.5-5cm long and 0.9-1.3cm wide. The leaves are pale green and have 5 distinct nerves.
The peduncle is erect and measures 3.1-4.5cm long. The rachis is curved and measures 16-19cm long. The rachis is quadrangular in cross-section. The flowers alternate distichously and are spaced 4-5mm apart. There one non-floriferous bract at the base of the rachis.
The sepals and petals are a cream colour. The dorsal sepal is shaped narrowly ovate-elliptic and oblique and has an acute apex that curves forward. The dorsal sepal measures 5.5mm long and 1.9mm wide. The dorsal sepal has an entire margin and is three veined. The lateral sepals are shaped narrowly ovate-elliptic are slightly oblique and have acute apices that can curve forward. The lateral sepals measure 5.8-6mm long and 1.9-2mm wide. The laterals have entire margins and are three veined. The petals are shaped ovate or narrowly elliptic and have acute apices. The petals measure 5-5.5mm long and 2-2.1mm wide. The petals have entire margins and are three veined. The labellum is entire, shaped oblong-lanceolate and has an acute to acuminate apex. The margins are recurved near the base and are minutely erose closer to the apex. There are 3 obscure nerves. The labellum measures 3.8-4mm long and 1.2-1.5mm wide. There is an M shaped callus that is present at the base of the hypochile. The column is gently curved and measures 2-2.1mm long. The apical hood is elongate and obscurely 3-lobed. The stelidia grow from the base of the column and exceed the column apex. The stelidia are shaped linear-ligulate and have obtuse or subacute apices. The stelidia measure 1.1-1.5mm long.
